Professor Alia Alghwiri

 

Professor Alia Alghwiri began her journey in physiotherapy over two decades ago with a deep commitment to advancing the profession locally, regionally, and internationally. Driven by a passion for evidence-based practice and a patient-centered approach, she has consistently worked to elevate clinical care standards and physiotherapy education. Her philosophy centers on treating the whole person reflecting her belief in the transformative power of holistic care. Through her clinical practice, academic leadership, and global collaborations, Professor Alghwiri has remained steadfast in addressing root causes of dysfunction and enhancing quality of life, while also shaping future generations of physiotherapists and contributing to the global evolution of the field.

Education

Professor Alia Alghwiri earned her Master’s and PhD degrees in Neurological Rehabilitation from the University of Pittsburgh, USA, following the completion of her Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy at the University of Jordan. Her academic path reflects a deep commitment to lifelong learning and academic excellence. She has developed strong expertise in balance, vestibular rehabilitation, and the broader spectrum of neuromuscular rehabilitation.

Career

With more than 20 years of clinical experience and over 14 years in academia, Professor Alghwiri has supervised student in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and university settings. She is currently a full professor at the 

University of Jordan, where she has been instrumental in teaching, mentoring, and curriculum development in the Department of Physiotherapy. Her academic work includes supervising graduate research, coordinating clinical training, and delivering advanced coursework in neurological and vestibular rehabilitation.

  • The president of the Jordanian Physiotherapy Society (JPTS) (2017-2020 and 2024-present).
  • Secretary General of the Jordanian Athletic Therapy Association (JATA) (2021-present).
  • Chair of scientific committee of the International Physiotherapy Academy (IPTA).
  • Active researcher with numerous peer-reviewed publications.
  • Regular speaker and contributor at regional and international conferences and courses.
  • Reviewer for several indexed journals in rehabilitation sciences.
  • Former executive board member and the chair of Education Committee at the World Physiotherapy (2022-2023).
  • Former vice dean of the School of Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Jordan (2018-2023).
