The Jordanian Physiotherapy Society (JPTS) is proud to announce  “The 4th Jordanian International Physiotherapy Conference” (JIPC), that will be held on 22-23 June 2018, Amman-Jordan. The conference aims to share and exchange scientific knowledge, experiences and publications covering a broad area of research activities in the field of physical therapy and to provide a common platform to network and interact with colleagues and international leaders in the field.

The congress will be structured around the following themes:

1- Advances in Musculoskeletal problems.
2- Advances in Neurological rehabilitation.
3- Role of Physiotherapy in developing countries.

Sionnadh qualified as a physiotherapist in 1994 at Birmingham University, gained her Masters in Manipulative Physiotherapy in 1999 from the University of Queensland, and completed her PhD in 2007 at the University of Hull. Her postdoctoral areas of research relate to 1) rehabilitation adherence and 2) neck and upper limb disability. The adherence theme investigates the reasons why patients do not adhere with treatment recommendation or attend clinic appointments and ways of optimising rehabilitation and self-management. The neck and upper limb theme include understanding why patients with non-specific neck pain develop upper limb disability and development of a performance measure of upper limb disability. She supervises doctoral students in these areas of research.

In addition to research, Sionnadh teaches on the undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapy programmes at Sheffield Hallam University. Her area of clinical expertise is Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. She is the course leader for the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice in Musculoskeletal Management.

Mahmoud is an academic and manual therapist based in Sheffield UK. He started his academic role at Sheffield Hallam University in 2004 as a senior physiotherapy lecturer. He is a fellow of the higher education academy UK.He has a master in MSK physiotherapy from Sheffield Hallam University , Diploma in manual therapy (leading to MACP recognition) and currently persuading a PHD degree in MSK Physiotherapy at Sheffield Hallam University. He lead the musculoskeletal module within the advanced master program and supervised many master dissertations in the field of MSK Physiotherapy. Dr Bhanu Ramaswamy OBE is an Independent Physiotherapy Consultant based in the United Kingdom and an Honorary Visiting Fellow at Sheffield Hallam University.

Having qualified at the School of Physiotherapy, Cardiff in 1988, Bhanu’s (inter)national clinical and academic practice have been driven by her specialist physiotherapy fields in elder rehabilitation and neurology. A varied career includes appointment whilst working in the National Health Service (NHS) as a Consultant Physiotherapist leading a Intermediate Care ward, and one of the first physiotherapists to gain a non-medical prescribing qualification in 2005.During her career in the NHS and now in the independent sector, Bhanu has contributed to professional book chapters, international guidelines and standards of clinical practice, and has been an invited speaker to numerous international conferences. She is a Faculty member for the Movement Disorder Society Allied Health Professions group, invited to facilitate presentations at their three Summer Schools for physiotherapists, in addition to running Diploma in Neurological Practice courses in Cairo, Egypt (2016) and Amman, Jordan (2017) for Primephysio.Bhanu has been recognised for her collaborative service to physiotherapy (particularly with older people and those with Parkinson’s) by receiving a Fellowship of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy in 2014, and became an Officer of the British Empire in 2016, the year she also received her Doctorate in Professional Studies.

Jacqueline completed her physiotherapy degree from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. She completed the Orthopeadic Manual Therapy course in 1998 and has presented as a lecturer on this course for more than 10 years. She is also a qualified Pilates instructor.

Jacqueline first came across the concept of movement control in 2004 and has never looked back. She has a passion for working with athletes and qualified as an accredited Performance Matrix Trainer, Tutor and Consultant in 2008. Since the she has been working developing her expertise in the system. She was also part of the research team and co-author of the published paper “Intra and Inter-Rater Reliability of Screening for Movement Impairments. Movement Control tests from The Foundation Matrix. Journal of Sport Science and Medicine.

She qualified as a Kinetic Control Movement Therapist and Accredited Tutor in 2012 and is passionate about sharing the message about the importance of movement control and movement health with her colleagues in South Africa.

Andrew qualified from Oxford Brookes University with a First Class Honours degree in Physiotherapy and has completed his MSc in Physiotherapy from Sheffield Hallam University. He has extensive experience within both the NHS and Private Practice as a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist. In November 2015, Andrew became the youngest Extended Scope Practitioner (ESP) in the country and continues this role alongside his work at Remedy Physio. He has been trained in the use of Cognitive Functional Therapy from Professor Peter O’Sullivan and has vast experience in treating patients with Persistent Low Back Pain. Andrew is passionate about educating his patients and uses a variety of manual techniques and individualised exercise programmes to ensure effective rehabilitation. As well as being an accomplished clinician, Andrew is an active researcher with ongoing studies investigating rehabilitation of Shoulder conditions in clinical practice. He has published research on both the shoulder and the assessment of movement dysfunctions, and has been previously invited to present his work at the Physiotherapy Research Society conference 2015, the Physiotherapy UK Congress 2015 and the Upper Limb Symposium 2013. Andrew is an author for the prestigious Cochrane Bone, Joint and Muscle Trauma Research Group undertaking systematic reviews of published research to help guide clinical practice.

Afterward, she was awarded her MSc and PhD degrees in neurological physical therapy from University of Pittsburgh, USA in 2011. During her PhD, she developed the Vestibular Activities and Participation (VAP) measure for people with vestibular disorders based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Her clinical experience is focused on neurological disorders such as stroke, MS, PD, and vestibular disorders.

Zaid Mansour gained his Physical Therapy Bachelors degree from the University of Jordan in 2008. Since then he has been interested in musculoskeletal rehabilitation and worked both as a clinician and as an instructor in this filed. In 2010 he gained his masters degree from Oxford Brookes University and started to teach part time in Jordan. In 2012 he headed to the USA and joined the doctoral program at the University of Kansas Medical Center where he gained his PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences with a dissertation focusing on brain imaging research, both structural and functional, in people with back pain. After graduating in 2016 he joined the Hashemite University’s teaching staff and has been an assistant professor in the Department of Physical and Occupational Therapy since then. Currently he is continuing to work on brain imaging research and starting new clinical studies in relation to musculoskeletal pathologies.

Mayis Aldughmi is a physical therapist who earned her Physical Therapy Bachelor’s degree from Jordan University of Science and Technology. She then worked and volunteered in several settings specialising in neurological rehabilitation. In 2016, she earned her PhD degree in Rehabilitation Science from the University of Kansas Medical Center, USA. She studied the relationship between fatigue and sleep quality in people with Multiple Sclerosis. Aldughmi is currently an assistant professor in the department of Physiotherapy at the University of Jordan. She is currently investigating sleep disturbances and fatigue among Jordanian people with Multiple Sclerosis. Aldughmi is also part of a team currently exploring the effects of mesenchymal stem cells therapy compared to combined exercise therapy (balance and strength training, and aerobic exercise) on a range of symptoms including sleep quality and cognitive impairment in people with Multiple Sclerosis.

PRESENTATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Abstracts may be research-focused or clinically-focused and should be evidence-based (work being presented should not be in the early intervention or brain-storming stage) and should be no more than 400 words long.
  • Abstracts will be selected by peer-review for inclusion in the Congress, either in poster form or for an oral presentation
  • The author submitting the abstract must ensure that he/she or one of the named authors will be available to attend the conference if the abstract is selected for either oral or poster presentation
  • Presenting authors are responsible for registration, travel, and hotel costs.
